The worst areas for girl's education are those among the poorest in the world and most poverty-stricken.
The toughest countries are mainly concentrated in Africa, with nine of the worst ten located in sub-Saharan Africa.
Countries in conflict zones and war-torn areas tend to have worse girl's education.

#1 SOUTH SUDAN

Girls in South Sudan are least likely to go to school. A young girl in South Sudan is 3 times more likely to die in pregnancy or childbirth than to complete her primary education.

#2 CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC

There is a huge gender gap in Central African Republic with the male literacy rate being double the female literacy rate.

#3 NIGER

Child marriage is a big problem for Niger, with 75 percent of girls being married by the time they reach 18. Young motherhood also prevents girls from going to school.

#4 AFGHANISTAN

In Afghanistan, there are approximately 3.5 million children out of school, with 85% of them being girls. The percentage of literate adolescent girls compared to boys is also much lower; 37% compared to 66%.
